College classes are starting soon, and while I don't recommend hauling you entire shoe collection to the dorms, consider bringing these seven footwear staples for life on campus.
1. Flip-flops. Dorm showers are disgusting. To avoid foot fungus, slip on a pair of flips flops every time you head in there.
Try: Skinny classic flip-flops,
$7.99 from J.Crew
2.
Fluffy slippers or moccasins. You'll appreciate these while relaxing in your pajamas.
Try: Tamarac by Women's Molly Pile-Lined Moccasin,
$14.89 from Amazon.com
3.
Canvas shoes. Who wants to wear fancy shoes while traipsing across campus? Keds, Chuck Taylors, or TOMS slip-ons are essential for your casual classroom attire.
Try: Women's Champion Basic Oxford Lace-Up Fashion Sneaker,
$28.00 from Endless.com
4.
Snow/Rain Boots. Because campuses don't always shut down during periods of heavy precipitation.
Try: Hunter - Original Gloss,
$100.00 from Zappos
5. Flats. Actually, these could benefit just about anyone's wardrobe. I always go for flats when dressing up because try as I might, I cannot walk straight in wedges and heels.
Try: Kenneth Cole REACTION Women's Slip Stitch Ballet Flat,
$27.60 from Amazon.com
6.
Professional-looking pumps. You'll likely pick up one or two internships during college. I'd recommend wearing a pair of sensible pumps during the interview process. Remember not to overdo the heels -- you're visiting an office, not hitting the clubs.
Try: 'Calie' Pump,
$78.95 from Nordstrom
7.
Sneakers. You can't stay in the library forever. Mix up your studies with regular exercise.
Try: Women's Shoes, Everyday Fit+ Sneakers,
$70.00 from Macy's
8.
Stilettos. For your extracurricular activities (ahem).
Try: Illene Metallic Sandal - Silver,
$49.95 from DSWDo you agree with my list? Which shoes did you bring to college?

you can get flip flops at old navy for cheap 2 for 5 bucks.. and they always have it on sale for 2 bucks during their sales season.. i bought a bunch of em
Awesome to know!
this was great advice! especially for freshman girls who probably want to take every pair of shoes they own
Yep : ) got 'em all!
yeah, haha, don't buy $7 flip flops from J.crew when you can get the same exact ones for $1 from old navy, if you wear flipflops.
i'm sort of a nike blazer type of person and rarely wear anything else :)Agree with them all! :) And omg, those moccasins look delicious. I might need them.
yay thanks for this post! I'm starting college soon and found this useful :)
There is no way I'm wearing heels for classes. Rain boots -YES! Tennis shoes- YES! Flip flops - Ehh, possibly. But that's it. If I'm walking around about 5 miles a day I'm making sure my feet are comfortable. I don't want foot pain to go along with the back pain my back pack adds.
I wear heels to classes... I'll wear brogues when I know I will be a long time on my feet, but if the only walking I'm doing is a five-minute one from one building to another, it doesn't really matter.
I agree with every single one of these, just please don't wear your flip flops to class and then start shaking your leg and making a ton of noise. If I don't wear my jingly bracelets so as to not distract you, please do the same for me.
@CrAdLe2daGrAve@xanga - yes. old navy always has good deals with their flip flops! :)
I live in super nasty old sneakers because I'd rather not get any shoes I care about near biohazardous materials. Eh, I just wear nice flats when I need to look profession. Any sort of heel is way too much pain for my arches.
good list and very true!
My go-to shoes are flats. They're cute and comfortable.
The rain boots make me think of the old Spongebob episode with the squeaky boots.
I live at home, though. Fuck dorms. Because I live in Texas, I think I mostly just need various pairs of flats, sandals, and sneakers. It might "snow" (more like just ice here) once during winter. But it is true, you need comfortable shoes for college. I often see girls (usually freshman who don't know better yet) awkwardly ascending the stairs in platform heels, like they're ready to go clubbing. I wore wedges once when I needed to feel taller to do a presentation for a class. Never doing that again. I'll just stay short. -_-
Nice post! I was needing this.
I was going to order those moccasins but they don't have any in my size. Boo hoo.
I have a pair of Sperrys, Oakley flip flops (they're actually good for your feet and won't kill your knees or arches if you wear them all day and are constantly standing), fake Uggs, and slipper moccasins, and those are pretty much what I wear regularly. Sometimes I'll wear my Ariat riding boots, but that's usually only if I get stuck with no time to change after going to the barn, which is fine because they are SUPER comfy.
@ceekh@xanga - L.L. Bean moccasins are AMAZING. I have a pair of these and they are super warm and comfy. I practically live in them during the winter.

@anndel@xanga - Exactly! This narrows it down to my closet.
cool i was about to not bring heels
I commute so it doesn't make a difference... but you forgot boots. They're great for fall weather, and cute, nonslip snow boats are really important. (At least where I am) Finals don't get called off for less than 6 inches of snow. I feel bad for all the out of towners...they always end up trudging about in flipflops. In the snow. I WISH I was kidding.
I have all but flats and stilettos because flats make my feet look big/fat and stilettos aren't necessary.
Doc Martens. I wear them everywhere.
I just bring three: flip flops, sneakers, and flats.
Target has canvans shoes for 8 bucks. Best buy I could ever make
@mypandabear@xanga - She didn't say pumps for class. She said for internships and parties. Any idiot would know not to wear heels to class,
