That Awkward Moment When You See Someone Wearing What You're Wearing
So I walked over to Duane Reade (New York City's pharmacy, as the sign told me) on my lunch break. I got a few things, paid in exact change, and was feeling pretty good. Then it happened. As I left, I saw come in wearing the exact same dress I was wearing at that exact moment.
What puzzled me the most was that this Old Navy dress is from last year. Apparently I'm not the only one who likes re-wear clothes from season to season?
The dress in question, except we were wearing it in purple. What are you supposed to do in this situation?
Do you acknowledge the fact that you and this person had the same answer to, "What should I wear today?" or try to ignore it? Of course, I was lucky in that we were both passing through. It would have been worse if we were in the same place for an extended period of time (Oh, look at that, flashback to Homecoming sophomore year).
Has this ever happened to you, Lovelies? What do you do when you see someone wearing the same clothes as you?

No. If it did, I really wouldn't care. It's not going to tear a hole in the space time continuum nor will it cause people to become so confused that they think that the other woman and I are the same person. I figure I don't have custom made stuff and I can't afford couture so the chances that someone in my town has the same outfit that I do are pretty high.
Last time this happened to me was in high school. I went over to the girl and complimented the shirt we were both wearing to make a joke out of it. It really isn't a big deal. Just be yourself and rock your clothes with confidence.
I have a marblized print shirt with a gladiator-style belt from f21 last spring/summer season. I wore it to the Pool after dark at Harrah's to see DJ Chuckie. On me, it's a dress, because I'm so short. I saw a super tall girl walk past with it on, and pointed her out to my boyfriend. It was pretty funny, because it was a shirt on her. It also came with shoulder pads inside when I bought it, which I took out because I didn't want to look like gladiator girl. So, at least mine was somewhat different!
If the girl wearing the same thing as me is fashionable and rocks the item, I just feel good cause obviously we bout have great taste;)
I saw a girl wearing the same, blue, hooded leather jacket as me and she looked great and that made me feel good about wearing it myself:)
haha this has happened to me before. it's kind of funny when it happens. and it is bound to happen, unless you make your own clothes :P
Hey, I think I have the same dress! I don't think I would care too much, especially if you're not staying in the same place a long time. Last summer, I went to my friend's husband's birthday party...she, another friend and I were all wearing the same black sundress from Old Navy! Of course, we are all different sizes and each dressed up their look differently. We had a good chuckle that were were dress triplets. Thankfully it was just a black dress...I went to a wedding once and saw 2 women wearing the same dress! It was a red and cream diagonal striped number...because of the distinctive and loud pattern, it was easy to spot them both on the dance floor in a sea of pastels and black.
That awkwardness doesn't exist for me. I compliment her on her good taste in clothes (and shopping destinations).
I went to the beach last week and there was a girl sitting right behind me with the same bathing suit on. It was a little awkward, but I just didn't care after that initial feeling.
Yes. I went to a high school dance and my former best friend was wearing the same dress as me. It was a little awkward since her date to the dance was supposed to be my date, haha.
This has happened to me twice. =/
First time I was wearing a red Coca Cola tshirt shirt with a denim skirt...so it was more of a "country girl" look. The other girl was wearing it with all black and it was rather Emo. She complimented me on my t-shirt as we passed each other, despite our completely different styles. haha
Second time a classmate and I wore the same turquoise long sleeved shirt with a peacock print on it. So we sat in class for 50 minutes wearing the basically the same outfit. We just laughed it off, though.
I had a pink and black zebra striped shirt in eleventh grade, from Wet Seal, and someone in the lunch room was wearing the same one. My friend was recording people with his camera and all you hear is me saying (jokingly, of course) "where's that bitch with my shirt?!"
I hate that awkwardness haha
Honestly, if I was shopping or something, and saw someone with the same outfit as me, I really wouldn't care??
But I went to homecoming and literally like 15 people had the same dress as me. That sucked.
It doesn't bother me because 95% of the time, the person with the same piece of clothing on as me is wearing it differently--different jewelry, shoes, bag, etc. It's not a big deal.
My two guy friends wore almost the same outfit to a party once. They both had on the same tank top with khaki pants, except one of them were wearing shorts. They even had similar shoes on. All night they kept saying "Yo bro, nice shirt, where'd you get it?"
doesnt often happen with me, as i wear kinda odd clothes, but i remember one time when me and 2 of my friends were wearing corsets and long skirts, they were all different but it was kinda odd as if we coordinated our outfits, which would have been rediculously wierd if we did, i mean who does that??? lol xox
I really don't care.
@Ashley Nicole Anders@facebook - lol yeah, exactly. I'm pretty sure everyone re-wears clothes.
it happened to me once, except i was wearing this no name trench coat that was hot pink, and this other girl had the same one in this lavendar. we just stared at each other for a couple seconds and laughed. but in my head i was like well THAT was awkward.
I dont see the big deal in these situations. When you buy off the rack, there's thousands of the same shirt being sold. It happened to me once in high school & I complimented the girl for her awesome fashion sense! Unless you have custom made clothes, it's inevitable someone will turn up in what you wear too.
I'll never forget this one time where Reese Witherspoon wore a dress to the Golden Globes that Kirsten Dunst wore 3 years ago & the fashion house issued an apology & all this junk. It's not that serious...
Happened all the time with my shirts in high school since we all shopped at Walmart. I don't see the big deal with it. And no, you're nowhere near the only two people who re-wear clothes, including clothes from the previous year. A lot of people wear their clothes until they wear out to get the most out of their money.
I couldn't care less; I don't see the awkwardness. I wore the same dress as an acquaintance at prom, and we just smiled at each other. If you buy anything from a chain store, it's bound to happen. Not a big deal.
I usually don't care much when I see someone wearing what I'm wearing. If anything I get excited to see someone liked the same thing I did because I always think my sense in fashion is questionable.
It's happened to me before, but normally only with things like tshirts. Usually I'll make a joke, like "hey, nice shirt!" acknowledging that we have the same thing on.
Happened to me all the time in the 9th grade. Me and this chick in my 1st, 2nd and 3rd period had the same shirt and we'd wear it on the same day.
In the 8th grade, me and my best friend started dressing alike (on accident). One time this bitch was like, "aw how cute! i didn't realize it was twin day!" this time, it was embarrassing.
This has only happened to me once...and it was awkward, because it was a guy. o.O I was going to go hang out with one of my guy friends and he came to my house to pick me up. It was cold out, so I grabbed my big, comfy Gir (from Invader Zim, for those who don't know) sweatshirt and ran out the door. But, I stopped dead when I saw that he was wearing the same sweatshirt. So yeah, I ran back into the house and got a different shirt, lol. I didn't need people seeing us and thinking (and god forbid, commenting) that we're one of those "cutsey couples" that dress alike. It would be weird for a number of reasons. First, I have a boyfriend, which would make it awkward for me. Second, he's gay, which would make it awkward for him. Yeah, it would just be weird all around, lol.
@Ashley Nicole Anders@facebook - That is exactly what I was thinking! I wear my favorite clothes until they fall apart! I've never met someone to my knowledge who has followed the seasonal fashion trends deal this xangan is talking about.
