Fur Banned from Oslo Fashion Week
Here's one thing that will be M.I.A. this February: fur. Thanks to Norway's Mote Mot Pels (that's "Fashion Against Fur") anti-fur initiative, the country is the first to ban animal pelts from their runways. This cool move has been backed by Norwegian designers and publications like Norwegian Elle, with support from as many as 220 fashion industry insiders.
It won't, however, stop designers from using fur in their collections if they want to; it just can't be featured in the pieces that are sent down the Oslo Fashion Week runways.
So far, no one else has jumped on this trend yet. In fact, the CEO of Denmark's Copenhagen Fashion Week confirmed that fur will still be allowed on their catwalks, stating that "fur is a central part of fashion."
What do you think of Norway's decision, and the use of fur in fashion? Will you be keeping tabs on Oslo Fashion Week?

Are they all Vegans in Norway, too?
ugg. Its fur. Get over it.
i wouldn't be sad to see fur go. i think it looks tacky on everyone.
Good. Fur should not be fashion.
what! Oslo! It's FREEZING up there, what were they thinking?????
@splinter1591@xanga - Why use fur? We have the ability to synthesize materials that keep us just as warm.
This is a very good thing. I like.
Good! No animal should be worn for show. It's gross.
I used to think it was not a big deal until I saw the process of skinning an animal. It's one thing to do it while it's already dead. But that doesn't happen as often as people would like to believe. Most of your clothes come from China and believe me, they don't give a shit at all as long as they get money. Even "fake fur" can end up coming from a cat or dog half the time. I plan to never wear any of it again. No point in taking the chance and feeling like an asshole for unintentionally supporting the fur trade.
:-\ but fur is so soft
yay :)
Awesome. =] Seeing models wearing animal pelts makes me a little sick.
Like, what if someone cut the skin off a human & wore it around? They'd be considered psychotic. Since there is no longer need to use furs to keep warm, having a wide variety of fabrics, there is no need to needlessly & cruelly slaughter animals just to put them around the necks of our fashion industry. It's pathetic.
@lonelystrangergirl@xanga - Wow.. so pet animals & admire them. Don't wear their carcasses. That's really pathetic that you condone needless animal slaughter because they produce soft clothes.. Look up the fur industry & how they treat, process & slaughter their animals (usually skinning them alive..). That's absolutely heartless. There are a ton of ultra soft materials but you want dead animal skin.. -.-" I don't understand people. I really don't.
1. Fur is ugly
2. Fur is cruel
3. Fur is completely unnecessary for good fashion
As a vegetarian who is anti-fur/animal hides of any kind, I am thrilled at this news!
Fur is NOT a central part of fashion -- plenty of good shows and clothes don't have an ounce of dead animal in them. Besides, if they really want to use it for the aesthetic effect, they could always use faux fur (which is what I usually buy) - there are plenty of synthetic, high quality furs out there that look convincingly like the real thing, and are just as soft and fluffy!
Good for Norway, I sayI love them :)
It's about time.
Why not just use fake fur? It's cheaper & still looks nice. Victoria Beckham is famous for it. If she likes a design with fur, she pays to have the outfit recreated with fake fur.
FUCKING GOD DAMN YALL> I can wear fur if I want to and so can anyone else. It's not hurting YOU is it? So get over it.
Should I cry for the animals and what not? They were BREAD (?sp?) for it, if they wern't fur they wouldn't be alive in the first place.
And for all of you who say "use fake fur" obviously you don't own fur or are cheep, its like saying lets wear rocks instead of dimonds because no one will know the difference.
*deep breath*that is all

Nope.
@splinter1591@xanga -
ahaha u trollin?
To me it all comes down to treating every creature the way I would want to be treated. Empathy. Look it up. I know that I would not want to be raised and skinned alive for you to wear.
And based on your logic that people should be able to do whatever the fuck they want if it doesnt hurt ME, then someone raping your mother is okay. I mean it doesnt hurt you.
You should ask yourself what kind of person just takes whatever they want from something else that needs it to live when they do not need it to live. What kind of person would condone such behavior?
But I do understand that some people choose not to look at other creatures as equals.
@ms_liar@xanga - ^^ I wanted just as radical a view to yell about as the vegans or whoever hates fur.
Good, ban it. I think it's interesting that a place where it's cold much of the time is the first to ban fur from the runway. Very cool, in my opinion. It seems that empathy is one thing that most people today are SADLY lacking, so at least one country in the world is saying something about the complete b.s. that is wearing animals.
@ms_liar@xanga - Thank-you. People suck ass. The end.
