I’ve always thought there’s something so inspiring about female musicians. Whenever I see one of my favorite artists live or watch a new music video online, I think to myself, “Wow, I shouldn’t have quit those piano lessons when I was 12!” Yeah I know, that’s a bit of a stretch. I just can’t help but wish I was in a band. When these talented women produce great music and have equally awesome style, that’s when I am the most envious.
In my opinion, the sister trio Haim deserves every bit of recognition from the release of their debut album, Days Are Gone. I was lucky enough to see these Cali babes at a Lollapalooza after-show this July. My friends and I instantly fell in love. Not only was their live performance super incredible, but so is their style. You’d think one of these talented siblings would miss the mark at least once, but nope. They always look effortlessly cool.
One of my favorite female singers (and Instagrammers) has to be Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast. After daily stalking her social media outlets, I want to be her BFF because she’s hilarious, and so I could possibly share her wardrobe. When I saw her in concert, I was compelled to ask her where her platform boots were from. I yelled to her from the audience and she yelled back, “H&M!” The next day, I went out and bought myself a pair. If that’s not style inspiration, I don’t know what is!
I’ve been following Kate Nash’s music career since I discovered the British singer’s first hit single “Foundations” a few years ago. Over the years, her music has really embraced an edgy, punk sound. This new sound combined with her strong, feminist views and girl-powered anthems makes her one of the most inspiring young females in the music industry. Unfortunately, I’ve never seen her perform live, but I’m determined to go and see her crowd surf in platform wedges and sequined dresses.
If any of you have browsed through Tumblr in the last few months, I’m sure you’ve seen some of the sassy twitter posts from Marina Diamandis AKA Marina and The Diamonds. How cute is the little heart she continues to wear on her cheek? That signature accessory is just one example of how the British pop artist is one of this year’s coolest trendsetters. Her vintage-inspired outfits tempt me to invest in a few crop tops and high-waisted skirts myself.
Lovelies, are you inspired by your favorite artist’s style? Does anyone else feel the same way I do about female musicians?
