I almost always follow fashion "rules." While I love crafting new and interesting looks every day, I'm never one to mix prints or wear white after Labor Day. But lately, I've been tempted over and over again to break the no-navy-with-black rule. Navy and black just look so chic this season. And I'm dying to try.

I've always been a huge fan of navy and it's a total staple in my closet. While I normally pair it with bright pink, black helps to transition my navy from summer-prep into something edgier for fall.

Here are a few navy and black pieces I'm in love with:

This J. Crew top puts a little bit of a twist on the traditional baseball tee, but I love the darker colors and the sophisticated crepe material.

I love a jodhpur pant, especially these navy ones from J. Crew. The black leather patches give what would be a completely preppy piece an edge.

The navy and black trend doesn't exclude outerwear. In fact, the perfect place to try a fall trend is in outerwear, since it's seasonal anyway. This navy jacket is gorgeous and the leather accents are perfection.

A sweet blouse turns sassy with the addition of two black patches on the shoulders. This top could easily take you from the office to dinner and drinks.

I am a huge fan of t-shirt dresses, but I always find myself putting them away for winter. But the color combo in this dress makes it perfect for pairing with dark tights and riding boots.

I'm actually obsessed with this top. I think I've had it in my shopping cart for over a month now. It looks amazing with that gold skirt, but I think it would also look amazing with a black leather skirt or even just a great pair of jeans.

Lovelies, are you loving this color combo this season? How will you be styling navy and black?
