This past weekend, I was watching The Parent Trap on ABC Family for the 300th time when a light bulb lit up inside my head: “Man, those twins really know how to dress.” (Oh, and I admit that I am still obsessed with Hallie’s haircut. One day…)
For those of you not in the know, this Disney movie is about eleven-year-olds Annie Parker and Hallie Parker (both played by Lindsay Lohan). They meet at summer camp and (surprise!) find out out they’re long-lost twins. They hatch a plan to switch places and get their divorced parents back together. Since the whole movie takes place during the summer, the girls’ outfits are perfect inspiration as summer days melt away into cooler fall weather.
And don’t forget to scroll through the photo gallery to see the outfits that inspired these looks:
Women’s Denim Jacket, $25.00 from Old Navy ♦ California Love T-Shirt, $22.50 from Roxy ♦ Chino Short, $42.50 from J.Crew ♦ Women’s Ferris Sneaker, $39.95 from DSW ♦ Cat eye Sunglasses, $5.80 from Forever 21
This look is based on the outfit Hallie wears when she arrives at summer camp, minus the yellow duffle bag. Hallie rocked a denim jacket, and I know later in the movie Annie as Hallie rocks a pair of mint green shorts similar to these. The graphic tee and Vans are a nod to Hallie’s roots out in California. Cat eye sunglasses add a girly touch.
This outfit resembles what Annie (posing as Hallie) wears hanging out at her dad Nick’s vineyard. It’s pretty straightforward — plaid button-down with a relaxed pair of skinny jeans, plus a pair of Western-style boots. For some femininity, layer a lace cami under the plaid shirt.
Women’s Tiered-Hem Chiffon Tanks, $6.97 from Old Navy ♦ Linen Cargo Jacket, $39.99 from LOFT ♦ Women’s Perfect Khaki Shorts, $6.99 from Old Navy ♦ Round Sunglasses, $5.80 from Forever 21 ♦ Women’s Bandolay Sandal, $19.97 from Amazon.com
In the movie, twins Annie and Hallie eventually reunite at the Stafford Hotel in San Fransisco. Both girls show up wearing sunny yellow and white outfits. For a similar look, pair this loose, yellow print tank with crisp white shorts (a longer inseam here keeps the look modest). For those cooler, breezy summer days, wear a light linen jacket on top. Keep the white motif going with casual sandals, and don’t forget sunglasses to brighten the look (and protect your eyes).
ASOS Bow Back Shift Summer Dress, $43.10 from Asos ♦ Dinner Party Necklace, $6.80 from Forever 21 ♦ Metallic Basketweave Clutch, $12.80 from Forever 21 ♦ NINE WEST Knoll Strappy Dress Sandals, $39.99 from Lord & Taylor
This dressy look is inspired by the dress Annie wears to a yacht the twins rent out for their divorced parents. (Although I have to admit, Hallie’s Eastern-inspired look is awesomely ’90s.) I had a trouble finding a dress in a similar shade as Annie’s, so I opted for this navy one (it has an adorable bow detail in the back). Add a fun, white necklace to replicate the embroidered detail on her dress, and dress it up with kitten heel sandals and a metallic clutch.
Lovelies, do you love The Parent Trap as much as I do? Would you wear any of these outfits?
